On the 14th February 2008, Phorm, formerly known as 121Media, issued a statement to the Stock Exchange claiming that they had made exclusive deals with the UK's top three ISPs - BT, VirginMedia and Talk Talk.
The system they wish to implement uses a method called
Deep Packet Inspection, a brief explanation:
When you type a URL into the Address Bar of your Browser, the Browser will send a
get request to retrieve the webpage. To do this your browser will send Data called
Packets.
This request visits a
DNS (Domain Name Server) which will look for the address and locate the IP Address.
The
DNS server will check the
Packets, normally up to 3 maybe 4 layers (to obtain the URL and the Cookie data etc - all basic uninvasive data).
The system that Phorm and BT wish to implement will go further, and will check up to the 7th Layer, with is the Application (which sends the request). By doing this the system will have access to all the data in the packet.
Phorm has stated that they can see
"the entire Internet", and boast as such.
The Technology they wish to implement is capable of analysing every detail on every WebPage that you visit.

3 weeks agoGood to hear you are studying. Are you going to do the LLB next year?
My mum's still in Greengairs and so am I. I live about 2 mins from her. She looks after Thomas for me when he comes home from school.
It's not easy being a mature student when you have kids to look after and a home to run but it will be worth it in the end. Well that's what I keep telling myself every time I want to scream and throw my books out of the window.

3 weeks agoI am doing ok. I am in my second year at Uni just now, studying to become a pharmacist. It's hard work.
My mums doing ok. She is getting on a bit though, she will be 60 soon.
Naomi has just recently passed her driving test and she is at college studying building and architecture.
I also have a little boy Thomas, he is 9 and would play his xbox 360 all day if I would let him.
How are you getting on?
